abstract | There is clearly a great need for improved diagnostic methods that will facilitate early stage prostate cancer detection and prognosis, and assistance in preventive and curative treatment of the disease. In addition, patients who may have a progressive form of prostate cancer may have a benign form of prostate cancer that is localized in the prostate and does not contribute significantly to the rest and morbidity or mortality There is a need to develop tools to better discriminate from higher patients. The invention is characterized by certain gene variants that are susceptibility variants for prostate cancer. The present invention relates to methods of using such variants to determine increased susceptibility to prostate cancer, as well as methods to determine decreased susceptibility to prostate cancer.
