titleOfInvention Multi-network neuronal analysis platform with parallel recording capability
abstract A neural network analysis plate having alternating rows of recording wells and amplification wells. Each recording well includes a neural network and a series of electrodes for recording action potential signals from neurons. Each electrode is connected to an amplifier in an adjacent amplification well. Ideally these amplifiers are in close proximity. This is because it makes it possible to demultiplex and record action potential signals from a plurality of different active nerve cell networks in parallel. Each amplifier in the amplification well can then be connected to an external amplification device. The neural network analysis plate may be housed in a single commercially available 24 or 96 well plate. The neural network analysis plate can be used in vitro to detect and quantify neuronal pharmacological and toxic responses to one or more agents.
