An improved composition comprising a mixture of particulate material and an aqueous liquid containing a water soluble polymer and a surfactant is provided. Examples of granular powders include a mixture of calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, calcium sulfate and hydroxyapatite. Examples of water-soluble polymers include polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylic acid and polymethacrylic acid. A surfactant such as sodium dodecyl sulfate is added to the composition to interact with the polymeric material. The composition is particularly suitable for sealing and closing the root canal and apex of teeth. The composition provides a stable barrier against bacterial and fluid leakage in the tooth root canal system. The composition also promotes the growth of new bone and tissue surrounding the root tip region, or dentin tissue covering the damaged or severed pulp. |
