titleOfInvention | How to process a gas stream |
abstract | In a method of treating a gas stream, an aqueous scrubbing liquid is circulated in an essentially closed loop (20) having an electrochemical unit (48) that reduces the acidity of the liquid. A portion of the circulating liquid is diverted from the closed loop (20) to the gas scrubbing unit (10). Gas flow enters the gas scrubbing unit (10), wherein the acid in the gas stream, for example, HF and solid particles, dissolved in a liquid, for example SiO 2 particles are diverted. The diverted liquid is then returned to the closed loop (20), and such liquid is replenished into the gas scrubbing unit (10) with fresh liquid diverted from the closed loop (20). A device (46) is provided for monitoring the acidity of the liquid at a given location in the closed loop (20). The reduction of the acidity of the liquid by the electrochemical cell (48) is controlled according to the monitored concentration. By controlling the acidity of the liquid, the solubility of the solid particles in the deflected portion of the liquid can be optimized. This can extend the life of one or more filter cartridges (42) located in the closed loop (20) upstream of the electrochemical unit (48). |
