titleOfInvention | Skin coating containing microbial indicator |
abstract | An indicator of microbial contamination for use in surgical applications is provided. A skin sealant is usually applied over a skin treatment agent to close the skin and hold any residual bacteria in place prior to a surgical procedure. This sealant is usually left on the skin after the surgical procedure. A skin coating is provided having an indicator that exhibits a visible discoloration upon contact with microorganisms or microbial by-products, thereby providing an early warning of infection. The coating is a curable coating composition and can be used without a skin treatment agent, such as wounds, bruises, abrasions, burns, acne, blisters, bites, stabs, perforations and cuts. It can also be used to protect other skin breakdowns. The coating can be used to close the wound or can provide an additional barrier to other parts of the skin such as nails and mucous membranes.
