titleOfInvention | Woody plant with improved growth characteristics and method for producing it |
abstract | The present invention is a novel and broad method for selecting genes with potential commercial phenotypes from a large group of candidate genes identified using bioinformatics tools, data from EST sequencing and DNA arrays. It relates to a platform for analysis. Aspects of the present invention provide a method for producing a transgenic plant having increased growth compared to its wild type. The method includes the step of altering in the plant the level of the gene product of at least one gene that is specifically expressed during different stages of xylem formation. An additional aspect of the invention provides a plant cell or plant progeny of a transgenic plant comprising a recombinant polynucleotide according to the invention. Other embodiments relate to a DNA construct comprising the nucleotide sequence of the present invention and a plant cell or plant progeny comprising the DNA construct. |
