abstract | A method for forming a multilayer coating on a surface is disclosed. The method includes providing a single source of precursor material and transferring the precursor material to a reaction field proximate to the surface to be coated. The first layer is deposited on the surface by chemical vapor deposition under a first set of reaction conditions using a single source of precursor material. The second layer is deposited on the surface by chemical vapor deposition under a second set of reaction conditions using a single source of precursor material. The first layer may have primarily a polymer component and the second layer may have primarily a non-polymer component. The chemical vapor deposition method may be supported by plasma or may be performed using a reaction source gas. The precursor material may be an organosilicon compound such as siloxane. The first and second layers can include various polymeric materials such as silicone polymers and various non-polymeric materials such as silicon oxide. The multilayer coating can have various properties suitable for use in organic light emitting devices, such as optical transparency, impermeability, and / or flexibility. |
