The present invention relates to a method for identifying a disease treatable by a PARP modulator, comprising measuring a PARP level in a sample of a subject and identifying a disease treatable by the PARP modulator. Wherein the decision is made on the basis of the PARP level. The method further comprises treating the subject's disease with a PARP modulator. The method relates to identifying an up-regulated PARP of a disease and making a decision regarding treatment of the disease with a PARP inhibitor. The degree of PARP up-regulation of the disease can also help in examining the effects of treatment with PARP inhibitors. The present invention discloses various diseases in which PARP is up-regulated or down-regulated and can be treated with a PARP inhibitor or PARP activator. Examples of the disease include cancer, inflammation, metabolic disease, CVS disease, CNS disease, blood lymphatic system disorders, endocrine and neuroendocrine disorders, urinary tract disorders, respiratory system disorders, female reproductive system disorders, and men Reproductive disorders.
