abstract | Certain embodiments generally relate to methods for the analysis of nucleic acids. The method includes providing a resonant structure configured to bind to one or more fluorescently labeled nucleic acids and directing excitation light from a source on the resonant structure. The method also includes generating plasmons on the surface of the resonant structure, and the analyte is fixed at the energy concentration point of the resonant structure. In yet another embodiment, a plasmon structure is provided. The plasmon structure includes a nano antenna implemented with a metallic material, the nano antenna configured to generate an enhancement region and a blocking layer disposed adjacent to a portion of the nano antenna. The blocking layer is configured to substantially reduce excitation of the fluorophore outside the enhancement region. |
