Polyols stabilize the polymorphic form of rifaximin, especially the beta form. When a polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups is added to the rifaximin powder, polymorph β is stable and remains stable over time regardless of ambient humidity. In the present invention, a method for preparing a formulation consisting of a pure and stable polymorphic form capable of giving a pharmaceutical product is described. |
