titleOfInvention Purification method of Montelukast
abstract A method for the purification of montelukast or a pharmaceutical salt or solvate thereof containing a stereoisomer or a mixture thereof in a mixture of organic solvent and water at a specific range of pH and temperature depending on the type of impurity to be removed To perform a specific set of selective extraction of montelukast or its impurities. In particular, the aqueous phase comprising the salt form of crude montelukast is washed at least once with an organic solvent at a pH comprised between 12.0 and 13.5; optionally between 8.5 and 10.0 Including one or more washes with an organic solvent at an intercalated pH. Montelukast is recovered by acidification and solvent extraction at a pH comprised between 4.5 and 8.0 and separated as acid or in salt form.
