abstract A cooled discharge hood plate for reducing discharge loss is provided. The cooled exhaust hood plate (200) is provided in a region of high velocity steam flow within an exhaust steam flow (35) of an exhaust hood (110) of a steam turbine (10). The cooling medium is directed into an internal channel (215) in the double wall exhaust hood plate (205) to cool the plate surface (260) adjacent to the high velocity exhaust vapor stream (150). The cooled exhaust hood plate (200) cools and condenses the nearby exhaust steam flow (35). This condensation occurs in a low speed zone near the cooled exhaust hood plate (200), reducing the boundary layer and improving flow through the hood to improve overall turbine performance.
