Pig breeding / breathing disorder syndrome vaccine based on isolate JA-142 |
abstract |
The present invention provides a substantially non-toxic form of an atypical virus that causes swine reproduction / breathing disorder syndrome and a vaccine useful for PRRS. A substantially non-toxic form of the virus responsible for swine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, and a corresponding vaccine, obtained from a toxic cell culture passage of PRRS is provided. The resulting non-toxic atypical PRRS virus induces a PRRS-specific antibody response by inoculating a host animal, thereby causing both a known strain of PRRS virus and a newly isolated atypical PRRS virus strain. It is useful as a vaccine in that it provides effective immunity against. Preferred passaging techniques ensure that the virus maintains a logarithmic growth phase that minimizes the time required to achieve attenuation, substantially throughout the process.
