abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold insulating agent which gives an absorbent gel excellent in storage stability in which the water retention of the gel is hardly lowered even when stored at room temperature for a long period of time and the shape of the gel does not change. SOLUTION: From a water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) and / or a hydrolyzable vinyl monomer (a2) which becomes water-soluble by hydrolysis, and a cross-linked polymer (A) having an internal cross-linking agent (b) as an essential constituent unit. A refrigerating agent comprising the absorbent resin (X) and satisfying both of the following (1) and (2). (1) The content of unreacted vinyl monomer in (X) is 200 ppm or less based on the weight of (X). (2) An absorption gel obtained by adding 1 part by weight of (X) to 100 parts by weight of ion-exchanged water has a viscosity retention of 75% or more after standing at 25 ° C. for 120 hours.
