abstract | An image forming apparatus and an image forming method capable of performing charging and cleaning on a surface of a latent image carrier with a small number of parts and excellently. The toner is cleaned and removed from the surface of the photosensitive member by the conductive blade. At this time, a part of the surface layer portion of the lubricant layer is scraped off. The toner deposits together with zinc stearate (lubricant) on the ridge portion 4a in contact with the surface 2, and the toner is fixed by the influence of zinc stearate. However, since the toner includes an external additive having a polishing effect, the toner and the lubricant fixed to the ridge line portion 4a of the conductive blade 4 are polished by the external additive, so that the fixed portion AR grows. Therefore, even if the image formation is continued for a long period of time, the primary charging process and the cleaning process of the photoreceptor 2 by the conductive blade 4 can be performed satisfactorily.
