A highly efficient thermoelectric conversion element with good sinterability can be provided. A thermoelectric conversion element has sintered micron particles having an average particle diameter of 2 μm or more and 3 μm or less, and a coating layer attached around the sintered micron particles. The coating layer is composed of nanoparticles and a binder, and the particle size of the nanoparticles is about one tenth of that of sintered micron particles. In the thus configured thermoelectric conversion element, heat is expected to be transmitted mainly through the sintered micron particles, and electricity is transmitted through the coated nanoparticles and binder.
