abstract Disclosed is a novel 1,4-benzothiazepine derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof useful for the treatment or prevention of heart failure, angina pectoris or myocardial infarction. The following general formula [I] [Wherein, R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group. Or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The novel 1,4-benzothiazepine derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof gently dilates coronary blood vessels, increases oxygen supply to the myocardium, and reduces myocardial oxygen consumption. It is useful as a therapeutic or prophylactic agent for heart failure, angina pectoris or myocardial infarction. [Selection figure] None
