abstract [PROBLEMS] To measure muscle stiffness while subjecting a subject to a passive movement of upper limb flexion, which is the same method used in clinical practice, and to quantitatively evaluate the measurement results, especially for gear-like stiffness. An apparatus is provided. An operation for flexibly giving an upper limb bending action to a subject using a stepping motor having an increased operation torque using a gear box directly connected to an arm having means for fixing an upper limb with an elbow joint and a wrist. Means for measuring myoelectric potential, and forearm position measuring means for measuring the forearm position with a position converter by means of a displacement cable, and analyzing digital data obtained by capturing biological information on myoelectric potential A value is calculated, and muscular rigidity is quantitatively evaluated based on the calculated data of the analysis value.
