abstract | Provided is a display element that has a simple member configuration, can be driven at a low voltage, and has little characteristic change in repeated driving. In an electrochemical display element having an electrolytic solution containing at least a silver salt compound between a pair of counter electrodes configured on an observing side and a non-observing side, silver is previously placed on at least one of the pair of counter electrodes. An electrochemical process comprising: a step of forming a thin film; and a step of forming precipitated silver on an electrode opposite to the electrode on which the silver thin film is formed while dissolving the silver thin film by applying an electric field between the counter electrodes.
