abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating solution for forming an undercoat layer having high stability, capable of forming a high-quality image even under various usage environments, and having high performance that does not easily cause image defects such as black spots and color spots. A long-life electrophotographic photosensitive member, an image forming apparatus using the photosensitive member, and an electrophotographic cartridge using the photosensitive member are provided. In an undercoat layer forming coating solution containing a binder resin and metal oxide particles on a conductive support, the coating solution is prepared by mixing methanol and 1-propanol in a ratio of 7: 3. The difference between the absorbance with respect to light having a wavelength of 400 nm and the absorbance with respect to light having a wavelength of 1000 nm of a solution diluted with a solvent mixed at a weight ratio is 1.0 (Abs) when the refractive index of the metal oxide particles is 2.0 or more. An electrophotographic photosensitive member having an undercoat layer forming coating solution for forming an electrophotographic photosensitive member, and an undercoat layer formed by applying the coating solution.
