abstract [Object] To find genes whose expression level is significantly changed with respect to substances (foodstuffs and drugs) having an effect of improving obesity and / or lipid metabolism, and that can be used as an index for improving obesity and / or promoting lipid metabolism. To provide a method for screening anti-obesity substances with high sensitivity and in a short period of time by using the method. An anti-obesity substance screening method comprising the following steps. (1) A step of bringing a test substance into contact with a mammal-derived small intestine cultured tissue or cells (2) A step of measuring the expression level of at least one lipid metabolism-related enzyme gene in the small intestine cultured tissue or cells. (3) A step of measuring the expression level of a corresponding lipid metabolism-related enzyme gene in a cultured small intestine tissue or cell derived from a mammal that is not contacted with a test substance (4) Step of selecting the test substance whose expression level measured in (2) above is higher than that measured in (3) above [selection figure] None
