abstract The present invention provides an alkaline battery that is excellent in pulse discharge characteristics under high load and at the same time exhibits stable performance against dropping impact, vibration and the like. An alkaline dry battery of the present invention comprises a bottomed cylindrical battery case 8, a hollow cylindrical positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 3 disposed in a hollow portion of the positive electrode 2, a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 3. Separator 4 disposed between and an alkaline electrolyte, and the negative electrode 3 includes a columnar skeleton portion 11 made of a zinc porous body, a side surface of the skeleton portion 11 and a zinc particle surrounding the side surface.
