abstract A liquid crystal composition having a large refractive index anisotropy is provided. A liquid crystal composition comprising a compound represented by formula I and a compound represented by formula II. In Formula I, R 1 and R 2 are H, a C 1-12 alkyl group, or a C 2-12 alkenyl group; A 1 and A 2 are trans-1 optionally substituted by one or more F , 4-cyclohexylene group, trans-1,4-cyclohexenylene group, or 1,4-phenylene group; Z 1 and Z 2 are —COO—, —OCO—, —CH 2 O—, —OCH 2. —, —CF 2 O—, —OCF 2 —, —CF═CF—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—, —CH 2 CH 2 —, or a single bond; m and n are 0 or 1 X 1 and X 2 represent H, F or Cl, but not both are H. In the formula (II), A 3 and A 4 are each independently a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene group or a 1,4-phenylene group. [Selection figure] None
