abstract |
The present invention provides accurate and efficient synchronization between radios using one or more complementary sequences, eg, Golay pairs of sequences. A matched filter corresponding to a complementary pair of sequences is used to correlate a received signal with one of the complementary pairs of sequences. The peak detected by the matched filter is used to generate a timing estimate for synchronizing transmissions between radios. One sequence can be used as a preamble part of a random access message transmitted by a mobile station over a random access channel to a base station. The sequence may be transmitted by the base via a synchronization channel and used to obtain synchronization by the mobile station. An efficient Golay correlator for correlation with a single sequence and an efficient Golay correlator bank for correlation with a set of orthogonal sequences are disclosed. [Selection] Figure 7 |
