The present invention relates to a drug comprising at least one double-stranded oligoribonucleotide (double-stranded RNA) designed to suppress the expression of a target gene. According to the present invention, at least a part of one strand of the double-stranded RNA is complementary to a target gene. The target gene can be selected from the following groups: cancer gene, cytokine gene, Id protein gene, developmental gene, prion gene. The target gene can be expressed in pathogenic organisms, particularly plasmodium. The target gene may also be part of a virus or viroid that is preferably pathogenic to humans.
