abstract To provide means capable of objectively distinguishing and diagnosing schizophrenia from bipolar disorder with high accuracy using patient blood as a sample. A method for distinguishing between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder uses the expression levels of 12 specific gene groups in a sample isolated from a living body as an index. [Effect] Diagnosis can be made by distinguishing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder objectively with high accuracy. It was confirmed using a large number of actual specimens that the detection sensitivity (true positive rate) and specificity (true negative rate) were both 80% or more. Since blood can be used as a specimen, it can be carried out easily. [Selection] Figure 1
