A suitable backplane for an electro-optic display device is provided. An electro-optic display backplane includes a pixel electrode (104), a voltage supply line (C) arranged to supply a voltage to the pixel electrode (104), and a voltage supply line (C). A micro mechanical switch (106, 112) disposed between the pixel electrode (104) and the voltage supply line (C) to the pixel electrode (104) when the micro mechanical switch (106, 112) is open.
