[PROBLEMS] To provide a useful use of a formate dehydrogenase using a formate dehydrogenase having a specific activity that is unpredictable from conventional knowledge. [Solution] It has been clarified that formic acid dehydrogenase derived from red mold exhibits a particularly high specific activity among known formate dehydrogenases. Examples of red mold formate dehydrogenase include a protein having the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 2. NADH can be produced using this red mold derived formate dehydrogenase.
