The present invention relates to pyrazine derivatives capable of absorbing and emitting spectral energy in the visible spectrum and / or near infrared spectrum. The pyrazine derivative of the present invention can be administered to a patient in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable composition, and can be used for medical (eg, diagnostic imaging) treatment. In particular, one aspect of the invention relates to pyrazine derivatives that are substituted with at least one substituent containing a chemically unsaturated moiety.
