titleOfInvention | Prevention of nuclear, sunlight, and other radiation-induced tissue damage |
abstract | Inositol 6-phosphate (IP-6) is a polyphosphorylated carbohydrate with potent antioxidant activity to prevent reactive oxygen species-mediated mutagenesis, cell injury, and carcinogenesis. IP-6 also induces a DNA repair mechanism. Sublethal radiation causes DNA damage through the formation of free radicals, reactive oxygen species, and pyrimidine bridges that lead to cell proliferation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. IP-6 and / or inositol and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and derivatives, including pyrophosphate and citrate derivatives, significantly counteracted the adverse effects of radiation, protected methods (more in the protective GI phase) Cell cycle progression, and similarly reduces apoptosis and caspase 3 activation. Various salts of IP-6 are used with equivalent efficacy, and the combination of IP-6 + inositol provides the best protection against radiation-induced cytotoxicity. Thus, IP-6 and inositol are effective agents for protection against nuclear, sunlight and other radiation injuries. |
