abstract |
In order to limit the residence time in the body, an implantable medical device is provided that degrades upon contact with bodily fluids. The device is formed of a porous corrodable metal to simultaneously achieve high strength and accelerated corrosion rate. The corrosion rate of a device formed of a compound of a self-dissolving metal or an electrolytically corroding metal is accelerated by its porous structure. Coating a corrodable metal device with a degradable polymer serves to delay the onset of corrosion of the underlying metal structure. [Selection] Figure 3 |
