abstract | A gaseous mixture of o-xylol and oxygen-containing gas is passed in the main reactor to at least two temperature-controllable reaction zones that are separate from each other, and unreacted o-xylol, an under-phthalic anhydride oxidation product, and Phthalic anhydride is produced by catalytic gas phase oxidation of o-xylol by reacting with a gaseous intermediate reaction product containing phthalic anhydride and introducing the intermediate reaction product into the back reactor. A method is described in which the temperature of the reaction zone in the main reactor is adjusted so that the concentration of unreacted o-xylol in the intermediate reaction product is at least 0.5% by weight. The This method allows an increase in the overall yield of phthalic anhydride without substantial degradation of product quality. |
