abstract | The present invention relates to schizophrenia comprising administering to a host in need of treatment or alleviation of symptoms of schizophrenia, an effective amount of a compound capable of selectively increasing ion flux through KCNQ potassium channels. The present invention relates to a novel method for treating or alleviating symptoms of symptoms. The present invention further relates to methods of using selective KCNQ potassium channel openers in the manufacture of pharmaceutical formulations for treating or alleviating symptoms of schizophrenia and related symptoms, disorders and diseases. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for screening compounds that are selective KCNQ potassium channel openers and have potential as antipsychotics. |
