titleOfInvention Depolymerization of fluoropolymers
abstract A process for depolymerizing a fluoropolymer comprising continuously feeding solid fluoropolymer in a particulate cylindrical form to a horizontal cylindrical first reaction zone. The fluoropolymer particles enter the first reaction zone at one end. Within the first reaction zone, the central axis from which at least one paddle protrudes continuously rotates. The rotating paddle serves to advance the fluoropolymer particles along the reaction zone while stirring. As the fluoropolymer particles travel along the reaction zone, they are exposed to high temperatures, thereby depolymerizing the fluoropolymer into a gas phase rich in fluorine-containing compounds. Similar to the gas phase, the residual solid phase is recovered at the other end of the first reaction zone. The gas phase is optional and is also passed through the hot second reaction zone. The gas phase is quenched, thereby recovering the fluorine-containing compound as a gaseous product. [Selection] Figure 1
