abstract The disclosed modification is a method of acquiring a spatial frequency spectrum from a specific site in a 3D sample using a modification of current MRI techniques for localized NMR spectroscopy. In its simplest abstraction, a modification is to add the use of a reading gradient to the current NMR spectroscopic pulse sequence and record the resulting echo. These techniques generate a spectrum from a selected region or generate a resulting image over the region of the sample. These methods can be applied to analyze the structure of trabecular bone and to analyze or diagnose a disease when there is a difference in the spatial frequency power spectrum due to physiological or disease processes. Various embodiments are disclosed.
