The present invention relates to a novel process for preparing a new type of catalyst for oxidizing CO in reactant gases or air. The method provides for the preparation of a catalyst having nano-sized metal particles and a capping agent attached to a solid support. The size and distribution of the metal particles can be easily controlled by adjusting the reaction conditions and the capping agent used. The prepared catalyst has high activity at low temperatures for selective oxidation of CO and is stable over a long period of time. The catalyst can be used in air filter devices, hydrogen purification processes, automotive emission control devices (NOx decomposition, x is an integer 1 or 2), FT synthesis, fuel cell electrode preparation, photocatalytic reactions, and sensors . |
