titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for navigation systems with reduced susceptibility to interference and radio interference
abstract The navigation system provides a significant level of protection against any form of interference or jamming to the GPS in a cost effective manner. This system employs a network of ground reference stations and low earth orbit (LEO) satellites combined with GPS. A common field-of-view ranging geometry to the GPS satellite that links the reference station and the user is set. A second common field geometry to the LEO satellite between the same pair of reference stations and the user is also set. The ground station synthesizes a real-time support signal by measuring the carrier phase of the GPS and LEO satellite signals. This support information is transmitted to the user receiver at a high output through the LEO satellite so as to penetrate the surrounding radio interference. The user receiver tracks the carrier phase of the LEO satellite, demodulates the assistance information, and then applies the carrier phase measurements and assistance information to allow an extended and consistent measurement of the GPS signal. This system thereby restores GPS signals that would have been lost due to jamming.
