abstract | A self-expanding medical occlusion device for treating a heart defect in a patient, particularly for closing an abnormal hole in tissue. The occlusion device (1) comprises a thin thread interweaving structure, the interweaving structure (10) being a first shape that can be predetermined while the occlusion device is inserted into a patient's body. The obturator in the first shape of the interwoven structure (10) is in a folded state, having a second shape that can be predetermined at the embedded position of the obturator. The occlusion device in the second shape of the interwoven structure (10) is in an expanded state. The yarn of the interwoven structure (10) consists of a shape memory polymer composition, and the interwoven structure (10) transforms from a temporary shape to a permanent shape under the influence of external stimuli.
