titleOfInvention | Method for forming multilayer coating film without primer baking on car body |
abstract | In the present invention, a primer surfacer, a base coat, and a clear coat composition are sequentially applied onto an automobile substrate by a wet-on-wet-on-wet method, and the applied three layers are combined together in one baking step. And wherein the primer surfacer comprises a film-forming binder, a volatile organic liquid carrier, and a pigment, and the binder is (a) based on the weight of the binder. Selected from the group consisting of about 30-80% by weight hydroxyl functional polyester resin, (b) about 10-30% by weight based on the weight of the binder, melamine resin, blocked polyisocyanate resin, or mixtures thereof. (C) about 10 based on the weight of the binder. 40% by weight of a non-crosslinked core of an acrylic polymer substantially insoluble in a nonpolar organic solvent and grafted to the core, and an acrylic stabilizer in the form of a macromonomer (the acrylic stabilizer is a nonpolar organic A dispersion graft polymer comprising one end of a solvent (soluble in a solvent), wherein the composition is preferably essentially free of crosslinked non-aqueous dispersion resin particles or crosslinked microgel resin particles or both. And the composition also contains at least one non-polar organic solvent at the time of application. The resulting multilayer coating film has excellent aesthetic appearance, chipping resistance, sag resistance, and film coating thickness even when formed by three wet layer application methods. |
