The present invention relates to gold-coated particles useful as an electrode catalyst for fuel cells. The particles include an electrocatalytically active core that is at least partially encapsulated by an outer shell of gold or gold alloy. The present invention relates more particularly to such particles comprising a noble metal-containing core, and more particularly a platinum or platinum alloy core. In other aspects, the invention relates to fuel cells containing these electrocatalysts and methods for generating electrical energy from the cells. |
