The present invention generally looks like a melanin index by analyzing the radiation backscattered from a skin region irradiated by at least one, preferably two or more wavelengths, for example in the range of about 600 nm to 900 nm. The present invention is directed to dermatological devices and methods in which one or more skin properties are determined. In many embodiments, the radiation is coupled to the skin via a waveguide, and contact between the waveguide (eg, a waveguide surface adapted for contact with the skin) and the skin. An optical sensor is used to verify this. |
