abstract |
The present invention relates to a topical sunscreen composition with improved photoprotective effect. It has been unexpectedly discovered that the SPF value of a sunscreen composition can be improved when combining dimethicone copolyol wax and at least one organic UV absorber. Disclosed are compositions and methods for improving the SPF value of UV absorbers formulated in sunscreen compositions and applied to the skin. A mixture is formed comprising at least one UV absorber and an effective amount of a dimethicone copolyol wax composition. The composition exhibits a synergistic effect over a UV absorber-containing composition that does not contain dimethicone copolyol. Application of the mixture to the skin protects against excessive exposure to UV radiation. |
