abstract | A treatment system for providing energy therapy to a patient includes an implantable device and an activation system having a plurality of energy emitters that deliver energy to the implantable device. In one embodiment, the implantable device is a stent that contains a therapeutic agent. The therapeutic agent can be selectively activated by the activation system before, during or after implantation in a subject's body. The activated therapeutic agent can react with adjacent tissue. The activation system may be configured to output a sufficient amount of energy to activate a therapeutically effective amount of the therapeutic agent when the stent device is in place. |
