titleOfInvention | Antimicrobial agents that interact with the complement system |
abstract | Antimicrobial therapeutic agents that act by novel methods for treating infections are compounds that may include peptides containing natural or unnatural amino acids or similar molecules. The drug can bind to the surface of the microorganism and immobilize complement complementarily to cause lysis of the microorganism through the assembly of membrane attack complexes, thus triggering removal of the microorganism by phagocytosis. The agent can be derived from a fragment of TFPI, such as the C-terminal region. |
