titleOfInvention | Implantable tissue ischemia sensor |
abstract | An implantable device and method for providing a local measurement of tissue ischemia. An implantable ischemia detection system in which a white LED (105) generates continuous visible broadband light that illuminates a target site (125). The light backscattered by the target is collected by the sensor (155), allowing an indication of ischemia to be subsequently transmitted by the transmission unit (167). Power is supplied by an internal power source (179). The entire implantable device is encapsulated by a biocompatible shell (102), adding long-term safety with respect to implantation.
