abstract | A catalyst for producing an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an olefin or an α, β-unsaturated aldehyde with high productivity, a method for producing the catalyst, and an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid using the catalyst A method for producing an acid is provided. An α, β-unsaturation is obtained by oxidizing an olefin or α, β-unsaturated aldehyde with molecular oxygen in the liquid phase in the presence of a noble metal-containing catalyst in which a noble metal is supported on spherical zirconia. Carboxylic acid is produced. The noble metal-containing catalyst can be preferably produced by a method including a step of producing spherical zirconia by spray drying and a step of supporting the noble metal on the zirconia.
