abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass for obtaining a glass plate which is not consolidated and is thermodynamically stable. An alkali-free glass having a liquidus viscosity of about 90,000 poise or more, expressed in terms of mole percent based on oxide, 64 ≦ SiO 2 ≦ 68.2; 11 ≦ Al 2 O 3 ≦ 13.5; 5 ≦ B 2 O 3 ≦ 9; 2 ≦ MgO ≦ 9; 3 ≦ CaO ≦ 9; and 1 ≦ SrO ≦ 5, SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , B 2 O 3 , MgO, An alkali-free glass containing CaO and SrO is disclosed. This glass can be used in the manufacture of display glass substrates such as thin film transistor (TFT) display glass substrates used in active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) devices and other flat panel display devices.
