titleOfInvention Reactive metal hydride encapsulation method
abstract A method for encapsulating a metal hydride in a hollow glass sphere is provided. The method includes providing a hollow glass sphere, the hollow glass sphere having a shell surrounding an internal volume. The hollow glass sphere is disposed inside the sealed chamber, and the chamber is evacuated as negative pressure is present therein. The hollow glass spheres in the evacuated enclosure are exposed to external elements to such an extent that the shell has room to diffuse molecules thereby. In some cases the external element is heat, infrared and combinations thereof. Thereafter, the metal hydride is prepared in the form of vapor, the sealed chamber, which is evacuated with the addition of hollow glass spheres, is exposed to the metal hydride vapor, and the metal hydride molecules diffuse through the shell into the internal volume. Thereafter, the external element is largely prohibited from molecular diffusion through the shell, and the metal hydride in the hollow glass sphere is removed from the hollow glass sphere so as to be condensed.
