Provided is a plate making method of a lithographic printing plate precursor which can suppress re-deposition of a plate surface of a development-removed component with a relatively neutral developing solution and is suitable for obtaining good thickness and printing durability. . A plate-making method comprising the following steps. (A) A step of preparing a lithographic printing plate precursor containing an infrared absorber, a polymerization initiator, a polymerizable compound, a hydrophobic binder polymer, and a specific carboxylic acid compound in the image forming layer. (B) A step of exposing the lithographic printing plate precursor imagewise. (C) A step of developing the exposed lithographic printing plate precursor with an aqueous solution containing at least one water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of gum arabic and starch using an automatic processor equipped with a rubbing member. .
