Combination of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and nicotinic acid compound, and method for treating hyperlipidemia once a day at night |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a solid drug combination for oral administration comprising a sustained release form of nicotinic acid or a nicotinic acid compound or mixtures thereof and an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, which is induced by a drug The provision of a medicinal product effective in altering lipid levels in patients suffering from, for example, hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis without causing hepatotoxicity, myopathy or striated muscle degeneration. The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for altering lipids of an individual without causing drug-induced hepatotoxicity, myopathy or striated muscle degeneration, and the pharmaceutical composition is used daily. A solid oral dosage form for administration as a single dose comprising about 250 mg to about 3000 mg of sustained release form of nicotinic acid and about 0.1 mg to about 80 mg of immediate release form of statin. A pharmaceutical composition comprising approximately 100% of nicotinic acid is released into the bloodstream from about 4 to about 8 hours after the pharmaceutical composition is ingested by an individual.
